Thomas Zimmerman

I’ve been told my work is different, but then what’s wrong with not being a copycat.   I love doing animals and plants.  I’ve been lucky enough to have had a few paintings on display at the Philadelphia Flower show.  I enjoy my retirement, because I have the time to paint and occasionally spend time at one of the galleries I belong to.  I amaze myself with the variety and scope of my abilities, as they keep growing by leaps and bounds.   I paint with watercolors and oils, acrylics, pastels, ink resist, and egg tempera, but my favorites are watercolors and oils.  At first the watercolors frightened me, I didn’t want to touch them, but now its my go to.   I’ve only started doing oils more often, mostly to slow myself down some,  I’ve done close to two hundred paintings.

I paint because I enjoy it, because its relaxing and once I start there is no stopping me.   I also paint so that others might be able to appreciate my creativity, and maybe make it part of their own experience.   I am not a big follower of abstract, although I manage to throw something out there every once in a while.  I am much more comfortable doing a landscape, and I think it’s a big plus to do local scenery and historical places.

I belong to the American Watercolor Society, the Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators, Bucks County Audubon, the New Hope Art League, Doylestown Art League and New Hope Arts.   I am mostly self taught, but have taken classes at the Baum School of Art in Allentown, and the Banana Factory in Bethlehem.  I belong to some local galleries.
